'We' have handicaped ourselves for an 'Otter' special day.
Tell you more on Monday.......
I just can't contain myself until tomorrow to tell you how it went............
It was pants ![]()
cant be worse than ours trev,
up at four and plenty of sea miles for the grand total of six mackerel.
still good to take part and well done to those that had a good day.
andy
Peter Russel text me last night to say he was fishing on Whistler
We had a busy day but no Huge fish, I am waiting for Will to get back to me on his and Stuarts best and the weight of the biggest of many we returned.
I think we had about 20, we kept 4
My best went dead on 5lb. and will be tea tomorrow.
Charlie
We too had a sh$te day on JV. The best laid plans and all that.
We had a forced late start due to the late LW, pushed alot of tide until we got clear of the headlands, but then encountered the fresh NW'erly.... 20 miles later we were off the back of the IOW, mackeral were hard to find, infact we had 4 between 3 of us in 30 mins...
We then started fishing and found over 4 knots of tide at the top of the bank.... so we moved inshore a bit - slightly calmer and less tide but no bass.... so we moved again.... 1pm by this time and weve had about 6 decent drifts, just lots of steaming into the silly tide and going nowhere...
.... at 2pm we tried the well known IOW mark, but soon ran out of bait... so of again to find these.... but we couldnt, so back with 2 live baits and shads - 3rd drift we all hook up! HORAY!!
... but 2 fall off, and we get a plump 5lber in the net for Craig.... filled with optimism back up to hook up again... errrr... nope! That was it, so at 4pm I was crabby and fed up so we headed home, having visited pretty much all of the offshore bass marks off the IOW, traveled 55 miles, wasted 70L of diesel and caught 4 mackeral and a bass. Rubbish... infact one of the worst days Ive had out!!
Still always next time and all that!
Well done to the sensible boys who stayed inshore and caught a few fish! ![]()
We had a cracker on JoJo today - we were up earlier than the tide! Doh!
We were at teh slip approx 7:20 and there was not much water - a little wait and a wander and some photography and the water made an apperance!
Charlie A got some good pics of the rocks that are marked with a red buoy in the way in to Mudeford - quite scary but good to meet them first hand in waders rather the being introduced to them via my prop!!!! No wonder AJ always says to me stick to the fishign boats on your way out!
Well we gathered bait quickly and started fishing - no more than 30 seconds and BANG - big fish on a very very light spinning rod - I felt under gunned!
First bass of the day 7lb exactly to me!
Through out the day we caught fish of varying sizes - my biggest weighed release was 1lb 6oz (should have weighed the released fish earlier)!
Charlie had a keeper of 3lb 6oz.
After lunch we restocked with bait fish and and after another drift I suggested deeper water ![]()
I had a call from Paul Jennings and off went a bait runner - I am sure it had smoke coming from it like in Jaws!!!
Anyway - Charlie lifted in to a solid fish and it gave a cracking pull back - I had to let Paul go and get down to the business of bringing in lines and helping as the fish moved deepely round the boat.
Up came a beautiful bar of silver - 8lb 6oz of angry and perfect Bass - and the best bit is we had the pleasure of admiring her for 15 mins whilst she recoverd and then swam away in to the depths!
So we had a good 7+ fish and probably the same number of missed runs.
We packed up as the tide started to change and push our drift back to front at 14:30.
A great day with some nice fish. Question is - should I lend Charlie a rod again or keep them all to myself?
I am sure Charlie will add some pics.
Rob
Result:
7lb 0oz - Rob Francis
1lb 60z - Rob Francis - RELEASED
3lb 6oz - Charlie Annear
8lb 6oz - Charlie Annear - RELEASED
I was round at Rob's at 06.30 and once he'd made his sandwiches etc (Get round mine by 6.30 and don't be late he says
) we head off to Mudeford slip.
We knew it was a low, low, low tide, but wow! (See other thread with pictures)
Anyway, we eventually got out and picked up a few livebait, and then onto our first drift. Literally 30 seconds later Rob is in! A hard fight which woke us up, (as if we hadn't already been up since the crack of sparrows) and netted and boated. On the scales at 7lb (confirmed on dry land) and into the coolbox.
We had 5 more during the day which went back to get a bit bigger, with my first decent sized one coming into the scales (also confirmed on dry land) s 3lb 6oz... and into the coolbox.
A few others chased baits to the surface, and one or two got off, but the last one of the day went to me. Another good fight, going around the boat, stripping line and keeping the rod well-bent- eventually netted and boated. This was a good one!
The scales gave 8lb 6oz! But this one wasn't confirmed on dry land as I decided to let him return to the depths. After a bit of nursing we let him go and he swam back down onto the green, to fight again another day. ![]()
We had a few mackerel for tea too- so all-in-all a good day on JoJo! ![]()
Wow,
Well done boys, i hope the 8 -6 bags you both trophies Charlie -
a cracking photo and very handsome fish, one to treasure
PJ
Thanks to you Paul - it was your phone call presence I'm sure!!! ![]()
Nice one fellas!!
Good to see some quality fish today!
Ace!
Well done Charlie and Rob.......... looks my training paid off for you !!
Sorry I missed the day ........ here in LA surrounded by [huge ] boats but not sussed any fishing out yet.
The pics have started me missing the bassing..........but here in sunny California there are plenty of distractions !!
Hoping there will still be a some about when I'm back in a few weeks time ??
Alun.
Well done Charlie and Rob - some great fishing there !!!!
Carol and I had a latish start, ignored 8 boats drifting in a row within Poole Harbour, and we popped outside to try a few marks we've had fish previously.
Working on the theory that huge bass are relatively scavengers, I used frozen mackerel baits in the tidal "lee" of a few lumps of rock we've recorded.
Three bass were boated, with the best going 2lb 5oz to me. Carol had the other two which were under the pound. Not great, but we hit target species I guess.
We also had a couple of plump gurnard, as well as other bits and pieces. No new species for our tally however.
Mike
Well done Jo Jo et al ........wonderful fish ..
