I had a run of wins at competitions several years ago and thought I'd got the skill thing sorted.
However, angling has the habit of being a great leveller---like the time my crew caught the only cod of the day on a lump of manky mackerel on a paternoster rig while I had been fishing with carefully prepared multi-squid baits.
And another time when I was thinking I was the bees knees having caught all the fish so handing the next bite on my gear to my biteless crew who proceeded to land an 8 lb bass----- by far the best fish of the day--I didn't feel so cocky then!!
Hopefully it's my turn this year but I'll use the word 'skill' with care and remember to go through my superstitious rituals (details on request) to appease the Great God of fishing.
This cabin fever is beginning to take its toll...............................................

Just clicked on your name Bill.
That's a great Ray in the photo.
Was that skill, Luck, or a Great Skipper ? ![]()
Jim
hi jim,
all three but ask coddy, i gave him my second go on the rod.
his ray was over 50lbs bigger thats where the real skill comes in not having
to wind in another big fish from 600 feet ha ha ha

Martin.
Is the club Bream comp and the open different events?
I would like to fish the club one (As long as I can get another kayaker to fish with me)but dont think we will be allowed to enter the open comp.
If we do fish the club one do we still have to book in at Poole Angling centre and weigh in at the Pure Drop ?
Many thanks
Mark
Mark you can fish the Club one under normal Club rules
Ie tell someone that you are going to enter and when you are going to fish. No need to book in at the angling centre.
Apart from the kayakers, others may want to consider their options.
We fished just the Club comp last year as we had guests onboard.
Dan had a fish big enough to win our comp, and the open if he had entered it.
He got the trophy but not the open prize of over
Cheers Charlie.
Just read the rules. If no other club member (Kayaker) is able to go can I still fish with another person if they are not a member?I know on a boat only one has to be a member.
Mark,
the work i was going to be doing over next weekend has been cancelled.
Will do my best to come and spend a day fishing with you, it will be nice to have teh kayakers enter our first comp ![]()
